During the whole of August, the British public has the chance to enjoy up to half price meals in many participating restaurants across the country. The Governments ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme aims to help boost the hospitality sector and in turn save thousands of jobs. The hospitality sector in particular has been severely hit by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This was mainly during the Government enforced lockdown earlier this year; but it is still an ongoing problem, as due to social distancing rules, most businesses can only welcome a limited number of customers at one time.

How does the scheme work? Well, the Government will cover half of the bill, up to the value of £10.00 – this excludes, however, alcoholic drinks. This means, for example, that if one person had a £25.00 meal (with no-alcohol) then this would only cost £15.00. There is no limit to how many times that you can use the scheme, so theoretically you could eat out 3x a day and gain the discount every single time.

The scheme is also only available on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and eateries have to register with the scheme to take part. The refund from the government will be transferred into the restaurants/cafes/pubs bank account within 5 working days. This is part of the Governments overall £30 billion package to help the economy after the three-month lockdown period.
